This is a quick update on the 2014 EPIC subscription process.

First of all, thanks to all the libraries that provided preferred subscription options feedback. This information has been invaluable in determining the viability of many of the initial proposals from vendors.

This is a bit of a heads up about the upcoming product offers, trials & pricing proposals that EPIC will be putting out very soon for the 2014 EPIC subscription year (beginning 1 April 2014).

As you may remember from previous communications, EPIC has been going through a full tender process to appoint a panel of suppliers to provide access to e-resource content to New Zealand libraries through EPIC.

Preview new look Britannica Library site

Encyclopaedia Britannica are launching a new look Britannica Library site in January 2014 and are giving all EPIC member libraries the opportunity to preview it.

Britannica Library is the version of Encyclopaedia Britannica Online that is currently available to New Zealand public libraries through EPIC.(Academic and Special Libraries have access to Britannica Academic Edition and school libraries have access to Britannica School Edition.)

You may remember that in an e-mail that I sent out in February about EPIC re-subscription for 2013 I indicated that EPIC would be undertaking a full market approach this year with the intention of re-aligning the offerings to the membership for 2014. Well, this e-mail is to let you know that we have begun the process and to enlist your help to ensure that we reach as many potential suppliers as possible.

Review of the EPIC service

This is to let you know that the National Library of New Zealand (NLNZ) has contracted Michael Dunn, Principal Economist with the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) to conduct an independent review of the EPIC consortium. The purpose of the review is to assess the existing EPIC service model and provide recommendations for sustainable options for the delivery of consortium e-resource services of benefit to New Zealand libraries going forward.

PressDisplay access problems

I have been contacted by a number of libraries that are experiencing access isssues with PressDisplay.

This email is to let the EPIC Member libraries that subscribe to this resource know that NewspaperDirect have been contacted about the issue and are in the process of working on a fix.
