Reminder: PressDisplay change to PressReader

25 August 2016

This email update is specifically for EPIC member libraries that subscribe to Library PressDisplay/PressReader.

As you may recall from previous EPIC Updates, as of 1 September, PressReader will be shutting down the Library PressDisplay interface (available at http://library.pressdisplay.com) and moving all current subscriptions over to the PressReader interface (available at http://www.pressreader.com).

  • Transitioning from Library PressDisplay to Pressreader (Please note: If your library currently has simultaneous user licenses to Library PressDisplay, you will not be required to upgrade to the unlimited subscription model to access PressReader (as indicated under “How many people can use PressReader simultaneously in my library?” in the FAQs) during this subscription year (ending 31 March 2017). I don’t yet know if they will be providing simultaneous user options following this, but I will let you know once I find out)
  • I would also advise reading the PressReader Migration guide

The most important thing to note, however, is that if your library has a current Library PressDisplay subscription and you do nothing prior to 1 September, your Library PressDisplay subscription link will re-direct to PressReader from 1 September 2016 – you will NOT be cut off!

However, the folk at PressReader are encouraging as many subscribers as possible to switch over to the new platform prior to Library PressDisplay shutting off (which I know that a number of you have already done). PressReader have informed me that they have already authenticated all EPIC subscribers for PressReader access from the following URL: http://www.pressreader.com

To check that your library is authenticated for access to PressReader, go to: http://www.pressreader.com from within your library network. If a PressReader HotSpot Welcome Box pops up then your library is authenticated for PressReader access.

If your library provides remote access, please also refer to the PressReader Migration guide to check that your remote access authentication method is still valid and working.

If you encounter any difficulties when test your access then please email Mark Ritchie mark@pressreader.com at PressReader and cc in Reuben Sonn reuben.sonn@proquest.com at ProQuest to confirm your library set up for PressReader. Please ensure that you provide a full list of IP ranges for authentication and details of the remote authentication method you are currently using.

Finally, PressReader have sent me through an updated title list spreadsheet which includes direct links to each title included in PressReader. The spreadsheet also includes links to front page thumbnails for titles to embed in websites etc. These are very cool as the thumbnail changes to match the cover of the title when a new title is released (i.e. daily, in the case of newspapers!).
