In the Vault — Heritage music recordings on Air New Zealand flights

Thanks to the Te Puna Foundation and Air New Zealand, you can now take a journey through New Zealand’s and Polynesia’s rich musical heritage with the In the Vault playlist, available to all passengers on long-haul Air New Zealand flights.

From Māori waiata to pop nuggets, ukulele bands to jazz combos, In the Vault features tracks handpicked from the extensive music collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library, which holds the heritage collections of the National Library. For those who wish to dig deeper, a curated selection of whole albums will also be available for listening.

In the Vault will be regularly updated from January 2020 onwards. The initial tranche of recordings are taken from the Viking Sevenseas and Ode Record Company master tape collections in the Archive of New Zealand Music, along with music from the Library’s He Puaki Puoro Treasures in Sound CD co-productions with Atoll Records.

Air NZ supporting He Tohu travel funds for schools

Air NZ will be supporting the Foundation’s He Tohu campaign to help bring school children from all around New Zealand to participate in the He Tohu learning programme.

He Tohu is the exhibition of three iconic constitutional documents that have shaped New Zealand:

  • He Whakaputanga — the Declaration of Independence

  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi – the Treaty of Waitangi, and

  • Women's Suffrage Petition — Te Petihana Whakamana Pōti Wahine.

A key purpose of the education programme is to help develop a better understanding of the documents that have shaped who we are as a nation and will shape what we become in the future. The vision for the exhibition is: He whakapapa kōrero, he whenua kura; Talking about our past to create a better future.
